“I felt good (at the end). I was better than the beginning of the practice, because of the change of the time, seven hour difference for us, Spain to Tokyo. We arrived yesterday.”
“My goal is to make six (apparatus) all good, without fail, to feel good at the end of the competition, to have the good feeling.”
“(How is your impression on Tokyo?) Amazing, it’s beautiful.”
Nikita IGNATYEV (RUS)
“(Have you been having a fierce competition against other Russian gymnasts to make the team for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games?) Of course. Three spots are kind of taken, and the last fourth spot is remained open. I don’t think I can grab the spot if I don’t perform well in Pommel Horse, Parallel Bars and Rings. This means that I have to be an all-rounder.”
“I had a great training today even after having a long trip. This surprised me a little bit.”
“This is my fourth time to visit Japan. I came here for the Toyota International two times as well as for the 2011 World Championships in Tokyo. Japan is my favorite country.”
“My goal for this World Cup is to perform superbly all the way through.”
“Kohei Uchimura (JPN) is my overall idol but Kenzo Shirai (JPN) is also very strong. I am glad that I can compete against athletes like him.”
Sam Mikulak (USA)
“Still I have jet rag as I arrived in Tokyo on Tuesday, and almost there. I’m sure getting better on Sunday.”
“My goal just hit six routines, I don’t want count any falls, I try to better than last competition (2nd at the American Cup).”
“Venue is beautiful, and I’m sure the crowd would be very good, and equipment is also.”
“My goal this year is the Wold Championships at the end of this year, and I want to get all-around podium.”
”This competition is just getting accommodated to competing in Tokyo and getting ready for next year in Tokyo Olympic Games.”
Bae Garam (KOR)
”My condition is very good.”
“I am aiming at seventh finish at this competition.”
“My impression on Tokyo is clean air and good place to be.”
Bart Deurloo (NED)
It is very nice arena. Beautiful. The place is really good. It was perfect.
It is quite big, lightning is good.
I was also in Tokyo for World Championship 2011. I love Japan.
(My goal on Sunday is) Just do my best . I don’t want to make any
mistakes. Don’t make any mistakes, and we will see where we end.
Giarnni Regini-Moran (GBR)
“My training was good. It was good to play in the arena and feel how the equipment was so I enjoyed it.”
“It (apparatus)’s different. It’s good. It’s not what I am used to so I am trying to get over that yesterday, today, and I got one more session tomorrow, so transition from an equipment in my home country to this equipment is a little bit of challenge but I like it. It’s good.”
“I tried to get used to the timezone couple days early in my home country where I live. I got here yesterday and I was thinking “please don’t fall asleep”. I mean, it’s always gonna be tough. By the competition I should be okay.”
“I have been here once, before, at the competition in Yokohama, I think. That was a few years ago as a junior. This is my second time in Japan.”
“I like Japan, it is a very good country. The food is a lot different. Some things I like. I like general things like curry, like the stuff we have in England. I have stuff we don’t have in England that I don’t really like.”
“I have been injured for a period of two and half years. I snapped my knee and foot. So I had two years with no kind of no gymnastics or competitions. I am kind of back fit now. I was very happy finishing at fourth in vault at the World Cup in Doha (in March 2019). I had two years out like I said, so it’s a start of long journey to come.”
“My main goal is to compete against such amazing gymnasts and just to see where I am compared to them…how much more I need to work because I have been injured. I do the all-around and see all my scores, see what my week areas are and where I need to improve so that I can go back to England and work more if I want to be anywhere near where I need to be.”
“They (Japanese gymnasts) are very good. They work very hard. They have different style, they have own style and techniques…I think that makes a little bit different from everyone else. Amazing gymnasts.”
